Bulletin: Discontinuing Direct Payments to Amex via iOU (Posted July 21, 2009)

Important iOU Update and American Express Travel Card Deadline

  • Effective July 30, 2009, iOU will no longer include the option of selecting direct payment to the Payee's Amex account.
  • As communicated to individual Stanford Amex cardholders in April, final payments should be received by American Express no later than July 28, 2009.

Background

In March, 2009, Travel Card Administration began informing University staff and faculty about the new Stanford Travel Card program—a University-paid JPMorgan MasterCard plan, which has now replaced the American Express program.

  • In March and April 2009, all Stanford Department and Individual American Express cardholders were notified that Stanford-issued American Express cards would be deactivated on July 1.
  • To date, 800+ new Travel Cards (MasterCards) have been issued to department administrators and individual travelers.

Applying for a New Stanford Travel Card

If you haven't already, apply for a new Stanford Travel Card. The new Stanford Travel Card is recommended for Stanford employees who routinely incur business travel expenses or administrators responsible for purchasing travel. Please visit Stanford's Gateway to Financial Activities web site:

iOU System Enhancements

iOU was enhanced to support the new Travel Card. Charges made using the new Stanford Travel Card are paid directly by Stanford to JPMorgan. Transactions are validated in iOU and can then be selected to automatically flow into expense reports, making iOU transactions simpler and eliminating the need for travel card payment reimbursement.
