The Secure Email service is designed for faculty and staff who need to use email to send Prohibited, Restricted, or Confidential Data — in particular, Protected Health Information (PHI) in accordance with the HIPAA guidelines, as defined by the Information Security Office.
The Stanford Secure Email service is designed as an opt-in service. The service assumes that a Stanford community member can identify whether or not they need to use the service. If you aren't sure if the data you are sending to a non-Stanford Email account qualifies as data that must be encrypted, please see the data classification guidelines.
Features
- Uses reliable technology to encrypt email messages sent to off-campus addresses.
- Easy to use for busy medical employees who must comply with HIPAA guidelines.
Getting Started
Using the service is easy. All you need to do is put "Secure:" somewhere in the subject line of the message.
