Leslie encourages and supports students exploring opportunities for social impact careers, focusing specifically on positions in foundations, government, nonprofit organizations and international service. She directs the John Gardner Fellowship in Public Service and the Tom Ford Fellowship in Philanthropy.
Leslie graduated from Stanford with honors in political science in 1990. As a student, she served on the board of Stanford in Government and participated in the “pioneer class” at Stanford in Washington. There, she was an INF Treaty Fellow on the Senate Foreign Relations Committee.
Leslie has since worked in everything from small nonprofits to large corporations and high tech trade associations, where she led corporate social impact initiatives and public-private partnerships around education and cyber security. She also lobbied on science and immigration policy. Leslie currently serves on the Board of Governors of the Commonwealth Club of California and is a Partner in the Silicon Valley Social Venture Fund.
Leslie believes that positive social impact can be achieved from within most any sector or job. Her own enriching experiences in the public, nonprofit, private, and philanthropic sectors inspire her to help students think broadly and creatively about applying their education and skills to making a difference. She is particularly passionate about introducing undergraduates from all fields to the opportunities presented by the philanthropic sector for driving and catalyzing social change.
