BHC Activities and Course of Study
Each Bing Honors College disciplinary cohort organizes group activities to help students develop skills needed for successful scholarship and to counter the isolation that often accompanies individual research. These activities, organized by Faculty Leaders, may include:
- Individual conferences with the Faculty Leader and Graduate Student Assistant
- Writing workshops
- Reviews of previous Honors theses to highlight and discuss research strategies, approaches, critical apparatus
- Library meetings with curators and hands-on demonstrations of research tools
- Faculty presentations on their own research and writing processes
- Field trips to local archives
- Individual goal-setting for the end of Bing Honors College, e.g. collecting and integrating data, approaching a literature review, narrowing a topic, completing and annotating particular readings, etc.
One Minute Presentations
At the BHC closing event, one student from each cohort gives a 1-minute talk regarding his or her research. Presenters are provided support, including rehearsal time with an oral communication consultant.
