Panelists

Miriam Marks leads data products and the development of transparency tools at MapLight, a nonprofit research organization that tracks money in politics. She graduated from Stanford in 2012 with an M.A. and B.A. with Honors in Public Policy as well as minors in Economics and Middle Eastern Languages. While a student, Miriam was a public service Focus Assistant in Branner Hall, a SIG Fellow, and an ASB participant. Miriam is also an alumna of the CORO Fellows Program in Public Affairs and sits on the Board of Directors of CORO Northern California.

Terri Oppelt (T.O.) Preising graduated from Stanford with a BA in Political Science and a MA in Education, and holds a secondary teaching credential. TO received her JD from UCLA and is a member of the California Bar. Her career has included teaching at the secondary education level and practicing law as a litigation attorney with a focus on labor and employment discrimination matters. At Stanford, she has worked with Residential Education and more recently with the Mechanical Engineering Department’s Design Group. She is now a Program Associate in the Stanford Prevention Research Center for the Stanford Health 4 All program and the Stanford WSDM (Women and Sex Differences in Medicine) Center.

Simon Yamawaki Shachter is a Program Analyst at the Laura Arrillaga-Andreessen Foundation (LAAF), an organization dedicated to improving the practice of philanthropy by educating and inspiring everyone to give in a way that matters more. At LAAF, Simon creates content for LAAF’s educational courses, supports the day-to-day operations of the foundation, and co-manages its grantmaking process. Simon graduated from Stanford in 2014 with a BS in Computer Science and a minor in Comparative Literature.
