At the first spring-term convening of the Workshop on Poverty, Inequality, and Education, we will provide an overview of the topics to be covered across our spring series, including guest speakers--
- Greg Duncan and Richard Murnane speaking on their new book Restoring Opportunity: The Crisis of Inequality and the Challenge for American Education
- David Kirp, speaking on his new book Improbable Scholars: The Rebirth of a Great American School System and a Strategy for America’s Schools
- Shashank Joshi, Stanford Professor of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences and (by courtesy) Pediatrics at the Stanford Medical Center
- Sara Rimm-Kaufman, University of Virginia Professor of Leadership, Foundations, and Policy (co-hosted with Stanford’s Center for Education Policy Analysis)
- Wendy Tokuda, Bay Area news anchor applauded for her nationally-recognized series “Students Rising Above,” which profiles low-income, at-risk teenagers who rise above the odds
