The Program on Poverty and Governance has an ongoing student research laboratory initiative that provides Stanford undergraduate and graduate students with the opportunity to engage in on-the-ground research.
Professor Beatriz Magaloni led several fieldwork trips including the 2013 Bing Overseas Program to Rio de Janeiro that explored some of the challenges and implications to favela residents in terms of security, local governance and economic and social development in “pacified” territories and a three-week field-trip to Guatemala in which students are given the chance to explore issues of maternal and children's health and to study the impact of local governance on health outcomes.
