Introduce new ASSU Execs + Bill to Fund UGS Recording Studio Bill
Jonathan Lancaster Finley. Junior UG majoring in political science. Brandon Hill (vice exec) is not here. Presidents of the ASSU as a whole (grads + UGs). Will be working with GSC/UGS on issues. JLF has been on UGS for the past 2 years, have worked with GSC before. Let them know if we need them for anything. Will be introducing a bill on spending UG buffer fund on building a recording studio for UG Acapella groups. Sebastian asks why not use the recording studio in CRMA? They have been having difficulties getting reservations there. Frederik Groce is here, financial manager of the ASSU, CEO of Stanford Student Enterprises. Sam asks if all UGs will be able to use the recording studio. Bryce explains the equipment rental programs. Next week we will be voting on the budget for next year. Jieyang says many of the undergrad dorms already have pretty good recording equipment. They say the current sound boards are not very good rooms, this is to create a new sound booth. They reached out to CRMA and various student groups to make sure this is not redundant. ___ asks if graduate students can also use the recording studio the ASSU sets up. JLF says probably that’s fine. Terence asks who does upkeep? JLF says UGS equipment master. Location still unknown.
Club Sports + Speakers Bureau didn’t get funding
These groups didn’t have enough graduate students voted to approve them. They got 14.5% and needed 15%. SB will probably come to GSC to ask for funding from our reserves. SB has reserves of about $90k, in situations where speakers back out because of illnesses etc. They will need roughly like $100k to scrap together in order to operate next year. Club Sports gets money from joint fees, endowments, athletics dept, etc. Currently SSE doesn’t know what to do, but there is a working team trying to figure out how we can fund them for the next year. Since Club Sports didn’t get a majority “yay” vote from the graduate students, they are trying to figure out what grad participation will look like in club sports next year. Sebas says last year we voted on a bill for groups who have extra reserve money in their accounts to give back their money, how does that affect the Speakers Bureau?
Webmaster (Xi) Update
Xi is leaving. He has nominated someone, who is a 5th year PhD student, here for the webmaster position. He enjoys web programming, has made several personal websites. Can query minutes too, has attendance records, pictures, agenda request form, bills, funding guidelines, etc.
Board of Judicial Affairs Open Forum
Board that includes faculty, staff, grads, and UGs. Advise the Office of Community Standards, which hears cases that come from violations of Honor Code or Fundamental Standards at Stanford. Members nominated by NomCom, also includes administrators. Planning to host second annual open forum on May 12, 5:30-6:30pm location TBD (maybe at Bechtel or somewhere in Law School). Want to have us as a cosponsor. Theme is “Honor Code in the 21st Century” to examine how the honor code relates to the future and technology with changes in the classroom. Want support for this event with advertising to students/faculty, and have a GSC member come to a 1 time planning meeting with them, to plan the agenda for the meeting and the content. Imagine it to be a panel event. Voting on GSC endorsement of this event, passes unanimously.
