CEE Undergraduate Course

Virtual Design and Construction (VDC) is the use of multi-disciplinary performance models of design-construction projects. To support business objectives, VDC models explicitly represent the "POP" of the project, or the

  • Product (i.e.,the physical product to build, which is normally some sort of physical facility),
  • Organization that does the design - construction project, and
  • Processes of the design - construction - operation team to build the physical product.

Inspired by design theory,VDC models represent the design "FFB," including the Function, or design intent, of the Product, Organization and the Process, the Form, or design choices to implement the product, organization and process, as well as the Behaviors of each, which may be predicted or observed. In short summary, VDC models represent the POP - FFB of projects.

Below is a chart that shows how CEE classes introduce students to explicit models of the Functions, Forms and Behaviors of Products, Organizations and Process.
