STANFORD, Calif. – Stanford men’s gymnast Brian Knott was named a first-team Capital One Academic All-American Men’s At-Large selection, as announced Thursday by the College Sports Information Directors of America.

It is the first Academic All-America honor of Knott’s career and he is the only Cardinal representative on the men’s and women’s at-large academic squads. He received Capital One Academic All-District Men’s At-Large Team District 8 and Mountain Pacific Sports Federation All-Academic honors earlier this year.

Knott - an electrical engineering major with a 3.67 GPA - won the NCAA title on parallel bars and earned two All-American honors on parallel bars and pommel horse at the 2015 NCAA Championships. He registered eight individual victories and notched five of Stanford’s top 10 scores on pommel horse, four top-10 scores on high bar and three top-10 scores on parallel bars.

Knott excelled in the classroom and was recognized as an MPSF All-Academic selection for the third consecutive year. He was admitted to Stanford’s wireless communications lab and was the first author on a research paper that was published at the 2015 International Conference on Communications in London.

Knott will return to the team in 2016 for his final season as a redshirt senior while he pursues a master’s degree in electrical engineering.
