Biography
Ms Bickart received her B.A. from Dartmouth College, although it was only after several European languages, and halfway through college that she decided it was time for something different and began intensive courses in Chinese. Some years later an M.A. in East Asian Studies from UC-Berkeley followed. In addition to Chinese language and modern Chinese history, Laurie is also (not surprisingly) particularly interested in the subject of language education in American schools. She has been teaching Chinese at OHS since August 2007, and greatly enjoys introducing students to Chinese, seeing their confidence with the language grow, and exploring how language intertwines with culture, history, and thinking.
When off-line, Laurie’s time goes mostly to her three kids, two pet rats, running, and a vegetable garden.
