Biography
Dr. Wallhagen received his B.A. in Philosophy from New Mexico State University in 1997 and his Ph.D. in Philosophy from the University of Pennsylvania in 2004.
His areas of research are the philosophy of mind and philosophy of cognitive science, with a focus on consciousness, though he is generally interested in metaphysics and the epistemology of science. Before joining the OHS, Dr. Wallhagen taught courses on the philosophy of mind, metaphysics, and the history of modern philosophy at the University of Pennsylvania and Bryn Mawr College.
In his free time, Dr. Wallhagen enjoys reading and watching science fiction and fantasy, reading about and playing with tech (especially home theater and mobile gadgets), sports that involve boards, and spending time with his wife and two very small dogs.
His publications include his doctoral dissertation, Attention to Consciousness, University of Pennsylvania, 2004, "On Carrthers' Argument for Higher-Order Representationalism,” Southwest Philosophical Studies, 2007, and "Consciousness and Action: Does Cognitive Science Support (Mild) Epiphenomenalism?” in the British Journal for the Philosophy of Science, 2007.
