PAC-12 game to impact traffic, parking, and Marguerite service on Nov. 30
Commuter and visitor parking to be displaced in Track House Lot and Varsity Lot
On Friday, Nov. 30, thousands of football fans are expected on the northeast side of campus near Stanford Stadium for the Stanford vs. UCLA PAC-12 Football Championship Game. In addition to increased traffic, which will be directed by Stanford's Department of Public Safety, parking will be impacted in the following areas (map):
- The Track House Lot (L-95) and Varsity (Sunken Diamond) Lot (L-97) will close to commuters and visitors at 10 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 29, through Friday, Nov. 30. On Friday, parking in these lots will be restricted to Pac 12 Football Championship Game (FCG) permit holders only. Some visitor parking will remain in the Track House Lot adjacent to the Visitor Center.
- Commuters who normally park in Varsity and Track House Lots may park in the Galvez Lot (L-96) and the Eucalyptus Grove or Lasuen Grove Lots on Friday without additional charge using their ‘A’ or ‘C’ permits. Some spaces in the Galvez Lot will be reserved for football parking only beginning at 6 a.m. on Friday. Starting at 2 p.m., vehicles entering Galvez Lot and all grove parking areas will need an FCG parking permit ($25). If cars are parked before 2 p.m., they may remain in parking lots for the duration of the day/night.
- Some ‘A’ permit parking will be reserved on Galvez Street near Campus Drive for bus drop-off on Friday. After 6 p.m., all ‘A’ parking on Galvez Street up to Serra Street will be reserved for buses. Please observe all posted signs to avoid getting cited or towed.
- The Maples parking lot (L-93) and Parking Structure 7 (PS-7 at the Knight Management Center) are not part of the FCG parking plan and will be open for commuters as usual. ‘A’ and ‘C’ permits will be enforced in these lots as on a normal weekday.
Commuters, including Marguerite shuttle riders, should expect late afternoon traffic delays on the north side of campus and should plan accordingly (e.g., take an earlier Marguerite to the train station). As always, commuters are encouraged to use alternative transportation rather than driving alone.

1 It is important for Parking & Transportation Services to communicate parking and alternative-transportation information to the campus. Under the 2000 General Use Permit (campus growth plan approved by Santa Clara County), the campus has a goal of "no net new peak-hour commute trips" over the life of the permit and must accommodate campus growth with a limited number of new parking spaces. Failure to achieve this goal will result in the university being faced with costly mitigation measures.
