Jonathan Fay, a 20-year Microsoft veteran, will deliver today's SLAC Colloquium, "The WorldWide Telescope," highlighting the challenges of dealing with big data in astronomy and the push for more open data and cross-discipline scientific collaborations. Fay's talk begins at 4:15 p.m. in Panofsky Auditorium, with refreshments served beforehand at 3:45 p.m.

Fay and colleague Curtis Wong work in Microsoft Research, a collaborative computer science research organization that Microsoft created in 1991, and are co-creators of the WorldWide Telescope project, which brings together astronomy, planetary and Earth-science data sets into an immersive 3-D computing environment.
