Lathrop Library

Project Description

Lathrop Library: This project repurposes approximately 140,164 gross square feet (gsf) of space within the former GSB Building 08-350 on Memorial Way, which was vacated when the Graduate School of Business moved to their new quadrangle. The renovated building will be home to the programs currently in Meyer Library as well as Registrar and VPUE space distributed throughout the five existing floors. The Bishop Auditorium and basement café are currently not part of this Project’s scope. More than half of the proposed scope is directly attributable to deferred maintenance and mechanical, electrical, and plumbing costs required to extend the useful life of the building. Most of the existing systems are either original equipment or in need of extensive maintenance or replacement. Additionally, installation of an entirely new fire sprinkler system throughout the building will be required to meet current County Fire Code requirements. Four separate SULAIR program groups, as well as Registrar and VPUE space, will be accommodated throughout the five floors of Building 08-350. The East Asia Library (EAL) will have compact shelving in the basement, where the slab will accommodate the significant floor loads, and the remainder of EAL will be housed in the existing Jackson Library space in the northern portion of floors 2 and 3. Academic Computing, along with Registrar and VPUE spaces, will be housed on the first floor and the southern portion of the second floor. The significant student presence in these programs drives the minor exterior modifications, and the collocation of the three programs enables collaboration. SULAIR’s Digital Library Systems and Services (DLSS) and Enterprise Systems and Programming (ESP) teams will be housed in the southern portion of the third floor, along with a portion of the Technical Services team. The remainder of the Technical Services program will be the sole occupant of the fourth floor. Construction is targeted for early 2013 with an approximate 14 month duration.
