The Oval expands ‘A’ permit parking, and visitor parking moves to Roth Way

As part of Stanford’s ongoing efforts to manage the growing tourist presence on campus, all visitor parking on the Oval will move to the former tour bus parking area on Roth Way as of Sept. 21. Removing visitor parking from the Oval is intended to reduce the impact tourists have on those who work, study and do research on or near the Main Quad.

In August, tour buses were relocated from Roth Way to a new bus parking area on Lasuen Street near Campus Drive. The former Roth Way bus parking is being converted to numbered visitor parking spaces as well as ’A’ permit spaces.

Visitor parking removed from the Oval

As of Sept. 21, the Oval will no longer offer visitor parking spaces. Parking on the Oval will be available only for vehicles with the following designations:

In addition to removing visitor parking from the Oval, the university also is considering other measures to increase parking availability for those who pay for permits, including extending parking enforcement hours to 6 p.m. on the Oval.

Please refer to the Parking and Circulation Map for visitor parking locations.

Visitor parking prices to change

Based on an assessment of visitor parking rates in the region, Parking & Transportation Services (P&TS) is changing visitor parking rates.

  • The new visitor parking on Roth Way will be $2.50 per hour as of Sept. 21.
  • Visitor parking in high-demand areas, including the Roth Way Garage and parking along Lomita Drive and on Roth Way, also will increase to $2.50 per hour on Sept. 21.
  • Visitor parking prices at all other university locations will change to $2.00 per hour starting Oct. 1.

Recommend Parkmobile to campus visitors

P&TS recommends that departments encourage visitors to use the Parkmobile app or mobile website to park on campus.

Instead of standing in line at pay machines, visitors can pay with their mobile devices using a credit card (Visa, MasterCard, Discover and American Express) at metered, pay-and-display and pay-by-space parking locations. Encourage visitors to register in advance with Parkmobile before arriving on campus.

Most visitor spaces are equipped to accept Parkmobile payments, so look for the green Parkmobile sticker posted on the parking meter or pay machine. Learn how it works at the Parkmobile site.
