2) May is National Bike Month! Get ready to bike or walk to work on Thursday, May 10

Celebrate the greenest ways to commute and enter our Bike Safety Pledge prize drawing

Want a more relaxing and refreshing commute? Bike or walk to work during May, National Bike Month, and get ready for the annual Bike to Work Day on Thursday, May 10!

Free Bike Safety Classes: Class attendees learn bike safety and the rules of the road, and receive a voucher to purchase a $40 helmet for only $10 from the Campus Bike Shop. Pre-registration is required on the Stanford Department of Public Safety website.  Attend one of these upcoming Bike Safety Classes from 4 p.m. to 5 p.m. at Parking & Transportation Services (340 Bonair Siding):

Department Bike to Work Day stories: Share your department’s team spirit and how you rally colleagues to ride during May, National Bike Month, or on Bike to Work Day, May 10. We have heard stories of both short and long rides, some from as far away as San Francisco and beyond. The information will help foster new programs, gather information on bike-friendly departments, and inspire all of us to ride more and drive less when we can. Remember to bike safely and send along a photo, too! Share your Department Bike to Work Day Ride

Stanford Energizer Stations: Stop in at one of the Stanford Energizer Stations on Bike to Work Day to take a break, pick up your re-usable bag and snacks (while supplies last), and be counted in the tally of riders and walkers for the day. Except where noted, all the Energizer Stations will be open 6:30 a.m. to 9 a.m.

Great prize drawings: Participate in the Stanford Bike Safety Pledge during May, National Bike Month, and earn a chance to win a Fuji Crossroads 4.0 bike. The retail value is $359, and we thank the Campus Bike Shop for the generous donation. Are you a walker? Walk to one of the Stanford Energizer Stations on Bike to Work Day and enter a drawing to win one of two $100 gift certificates to The Walking Company.

Bike to Work Day volunteers wanted! Volunteers are needed at our energizer stations to meet and greet riders with a smile, distribute goodies, and tally riders and walkers. Send an email to bike-information@stanford.edu if you can help during one of these two shifts: 6:30 a.m. to 8 a.m. or 7:30 a.m. to 9 a.m.

For full details on all activities, tips, and incentives for Bike to Work Day, visit the P&TS Bike to Work Day webpage.

For bicycle questions, comments, or suggestions, contact our bicycle program coordinator at bike-information@stanford.edu or 650.725.BIKE (2453).

3) Marguerite launches new Bohannon shuttle line between Menlo Park and Stanford Barn

Weekday service includes a stop at Caltrain’s Menlo Park station

On April 16, Stanford’s Marguerite Shuttle began operating its new Bohannon line, designed to make it easier for the Lucile Packard Children’s Hospital (LPCH) community to move between the main LPCH campus and the LPCH administrative offices in Menlo Park.

The Bohannon shuttle, sponsored by LPCH, travels between 4100/4700 Bohannon Drive and the Stanford Barn, with stops at Caltrain’s Menlo Park station and at Staples and Safeway on El Camino Real. The Bohannon shuttle runs on weekdays between 7:30 a.m. and 6:45 p.m. Each Bohannon shuttle is ADA-compliant, has bike racks, and has a capacity of 12 to 14 passengers, face-forward seating configuration with tray tables for laptops (due in early summer), and Wi-Fi connectivity.

The Bohannon shuttle could be a relaxing, productive, and potentially time-saving alternative to driving and parking. It is an estimated five-minute walk from the Stanford Barn stop at Vineyard Lane to the main entrance of LPCH off Welch Road. Walking another two to five minutes will get you to Stanford Hospital & Clinics.

The current Marguerite system map and schedule, effective March 2012, does not include the new Bohannon shuttle. As an alternative, the following documents are formatted to be printed on letter-sized paper:

If you have comments or questions, please send an email to marguerite@stanford.edu or call 650.723.9362. For commute or trip-planning assistance, visit our do-it-yourself or custom commute planning request page.

1 It is important for Parking & Transportation Services to communicate parking and alternative-transportation information to the campus. Under the 2000 General Use Permit (campus growth plan approved by Santa Clara County), the campus has a goal of "no net new peak-hour commute trips" over the life of the permit and must accommodate campus growth with a limited number of new parking spaces. Failure to achieve this goal will result in the campus being faced with costly mitigation measures.
