1) Apply online for 2012-13 parking permits

New permits required on Sept. 1; order online to avoid long lines

It is time to apply for 2012-13 parking permits. Current parking permits expire on Aug. 31. Permit holders need to display new parking permits as of Sept. 1, 2012 (2012-13 permit rates).

Before you purchase a parking permit, consider joining the Commute Club, which pays up to $300 per year in Clean Air Cash or Carpool Credit to eligible commuters who don't drive alone to Stanford’s main campus. Participate in our Permit Non-Renewal  Promotion, and you could receive an additional $100, $75, $50, or $25.

If you need to drive, avoid a trip to the Parking & Transportation Services office and the long lines associated with the new academic year. Order online by Friday, Aug. 17, and request "U.S. Mail" delivery (allow 7 to 10 days). If you select "pick up," you will be notified when your permit is available (usually within 3 to 5 days). Commuting students: Please note that you cannot order a permit online or in person until our system is updated with your fall registration.

Online ordering is recommended, but here are all the options to apply:

  1. Order online (recommended)
  2. Fax your application: 650.724.8676
  3. Email your scanned application
  4. Apply in person or by mail: 340 Bonair Siding (Mail Code 7255), Stanford, CA 94305-7255

Our office hours are 7:30 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday, except university holidays. For more information, contact us at 650.723.9362 or transportation@stanford.edu.

2) Refrain from renewing your long-term parking permit and receive up to a $100 bonus

Eligible commuters receive $100, $75, $50, or $25 in addition to Commute Club rewards

Before you purchase a parking permit, consider joining the Commute Club and participating in our Permit Non-Renewal  Promotion. By not renewing your long-term permit, you could receive $100, $75, $50, or $25 (a longer commitment receives a higher reward) in addition to up to $300 from the Commute Club!

Here’s how the promotion works:

Renew or start your membership for the upcoming 2012-13 academic year

Did you know you could receive up to $300 per year as a Commute Club member by biking, carpooling, taking transit, vanpooling, and/or walking instead of driving alone? Did you also know that previous members need to renew their memberships every year?

Whether you are joining or renewing, order online today to enroll in the Commute Club for the new academic year. Commuting students: Please note that you cannot enroll in the Commute Club online or in person until our system is updated with your fall registration.

Consider the many rewards of joining the Commute Club or renewing your free membership:

4) Last chance to enroll in the Commute Club for the current academic year

Retroactive Clean Air Cash must be requested by Aug. 27 for 2011-12

Did you forget to enroll in the Commute Club last September, even though you were eligible during 2011-12? If so, please note that enrollment for the Commute Club can be processed only within the same academic year. This means you must apply by Monday, Aug. 27, to request retroactive Commute Club enrollment for all or part of the current academic year (September 2011 through August 2012). If you are unsure about your membership, visit My Commute Club to check your membership status.

If you are not currently enrolled and want to request retroactive Clean Air Cash and other rewards for this academic year, you must use a paper application (PDF) and submit it by Monday, Aug. 27, by fax (650.724.8676), by scanning and sending it by email, or by submitting it in person at 340 Bonair Siding.

If you currently are enrolled in the Commute Club and would like to request retroactive Clean Air Cash for previous months in which you should have been enrolled, please send an email to commuteclub@stanford.edu. Please indicate your eligibility for previous months in this academic year and request that they be added to your membership. Not sure whether you are a current member? Visit My Commute Club to check your membership status.

If you have questions, please contact us at commuteclub@stanford.edu.

5) Selected parking is displaced at Parking Structure 2, Panama Lot, and the Oval

Parking impacts to be in effect for one to three weeks

Beginning Monday, Aug. 6, parking will be displaced at Parking Structure 2, Panama Lot, and the Oval. Please observe all posted signs to avoid being cited and/or towed.

Parking Structure 2 and Panama Lot

Parking Structure 2 (PS-2) is undergoing work to maintain safe continued operation of the facility. As work crews move through the facility, some parking will be displaced, including "C" parking. Selected "A" parking in PS-2 will be converted temporarily to "C" parking. Additionally, a number of spaces in Panama Lot (L-25) will be displaced by construction.

Parking alternatives for PS-2 and L-25 include the following:

Work in PS-2 should be completed by the end of August. Both projects will be completed before classes resume in September. Upon completion of these projects, displaced parking will be restored.

The Oval

Visitor and disabled parking spaces on the eastern (outbound) side of the Oval will be displaced for one week due to a project replacing the paved pedestrian path. Disabled parking will be expanded on the western side to offset the displacement. The bus stop at the Oval will remain on the southeast corner of the Oval. Alternative visitor parking options include Lomita Drive, Museum Way, and Parking Structure 1 (PS-1). All parking is expected to be restored by Saturday, Aug. 11.

For more information, refer to the Parking & Circulation Map (PDF) and the construction-related impacts page on our website. Contact us for parking options and assistance at parkingoperations@stanford.edu or 650.723.9362.

1 It is important for Parking & Transportation Services to communicate parking and alternative-transportation information to the campus. Under the 2000 General Use Permit (campus growth plan approved by Santa Clara County), the campus has a goal of "no net new peak-hour commute trips" over the life of the permit and must accommodate campus growth with a limited number of new parking spaces. Failure to achieve this goal will result in the university being faced with costly mitigation measures.
