1) Roth Way closures and limited parking enforcement and transit service on Presidents Day

Roth Way between Lomita Drive and Campus Drive will have intermittent closures on Monday

Roth Way closures: Due to construction on the McMurtry Building, Roth Way between Lomita Drive and Campus Drive West will be closed for durations of 30 to 90 minutes up to three times on Monday, Feb. 17. At all other times, at least one lane is expected to remain open throughout the day. Traffic will be directed by flaggers.

Limited parking enforcement: During the Presidents Day holiday, Feb. 17, unless otherwise posted, parking permit enforcement will be suspended in all 'C' parking lots (including shared commuter/residential lots), most visitor spaces, and in most 'A' lots, with the exception of parking facilities serving the hospital and School of Medicine. 'A' parking spaces, visitor spaces, Service/University Vehicle spaces, and timed loading zones/spaces will be enforced during the holiday as follows.

These parking areas will be enforced on Presidents Day:

Parking restrictions in residential lots (except shared lots) and special zones, such as disabled parking, red zones, fire lanes, and ‘Special Permit Only’ spaces will be enforced 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Please refer to our Parking and Circulation Map (PDF) for parking locations and designations.

Marguerite and other transit service: All Marguerite service, including Ardenwood Express, will be suspended on Monday, Feb. 17, except the following lines.

Operating Monday, Feb. 17:

The AC Transit Line U and Dumbarton Express will not operate on Feb. 17. Caltrain will operate on a modified schedule (PDF). VTA and SamTrans will operate on regular schedules. For information about other Bay Area transit agencies, refer to the 511 Holiday Schedules table.

P&TS will be closed on Monday, Feb. 17, for the Presidents Day holiday. If you have questions, please contact us before 5 p.m. on Feb. 14 or contact the appropriate transit agency directly.

4) Check out the new bike safety repair stand at Blake Wilbur Drive

P&TS also announces Bike Safety Dorm Challenge winners and a bike safety class

Bicyclists will find a new bike safety repair stand at 875 Blake Wilbur Drive. Stanford now has six bicycle safety repair stands, which enable cyclists to make minor repairs and inflate tires for free.

The repair stands are part of the university’s efforts to promote bike safety, which include encouraging cyclists to wear a helmet for every ride and follow the rules of the road. Bicyclists also are invited to attend a free bike safety class this month offered by the Department of Public Safety and P&TS. Attend the class on Thursday, Feb. 27 at 4 p.m. Register on the Department of Public Safety website.

To encourage bike safety among students, P&TS held the fourth annual Bike Safety Dorm Challenge, which culminated in prize drawings in January. To participate, resident undergraduate students pledged to follow the rules of the road, wear a helmet for every ride, and respect the rights of all road users. Dorms competed to achieve the highest number of participants or the highest participation rate to win a free charter bus trip to Lake Tahoe.

Congratulations to this year’s winners! Crothers won with 259 participants and the Enchanted Broccoli Forest won a three-way tie with Casa Zapata and Muwekma-tah-ruk with 100 percent participation. Thanks to all 1,131 students who participated in 2013, an increase of 41 percent over the first challenge in 2010!

If you have questions about bike safety at Stanford, please contact the bicycle program at bike-information@stanford.edu or 650.725.2453.

1 It is important for Parking & Transportation Services to communicate parking and alternative-transportation information to the campus. Under the 2000 General Use Permit (campus growth plan approved by Santa Clara County), the campus has a goal of "no net new peak-hour commute trips" over the life of the permit and must accommodate campus growth with a limited number of new parking spaces. Failure to achieve this goal will result in the university being faced with costly mitigation measures.
