Whether you are participating in Bike to Work Day or biking on other days, we encourage you to take part in one of our free bike safety classes and other upcoming bike-related classes.

3) Stanford adds six new Zipcars and two new Zipcar locations

Need a car? Borrow a Zipcar at Stanford and save

Six new Zipcars have been added at new and existing Zipcar locations on campus:

With these additions, Stanford now has 46 Zipcars at 18 locations. Visit our website for a full list of Zipcar locations at Stanford.

Zipcar at Stanford provides a self-service, on-demand car sharing program for faculty and staff and for Stanford students, ages 18 and over. Stanford affiliates can join Zipcar for $25 and receive $35 in driving credit. Zipcars can be accessed 24/7, rates start at $7 per hour (including gas and insurance), and members have access to 9,000+ Zipcars at locations worldwide. Zipcar offers free Stanford department memberships, and Stanford Commute Club members receive up to $96 a year in additional driving credit. Join Zipcar today!

Whenever possible, all Stanford affiliates are encouraged to avoid departing campus during the peak commute times, which include departures from campus between 5 p.m. and 6 p.m. If you have questions, please send an email to commuteclub@stanford.edu.

4) Stanford affiliates now enjoy half-off on ACE Train passes

This special discount applies to monthly passes and 20-trip tickets

Stanford faculty, staff, students, and hospital employees with a Stanford ID card or hospital ID badge now enjoy a 50-percent discount on ACE Train monthly passes or 20-trip tickets (limit of one per month). Discounted tickets are only available through Stanford Parking & Transportation Services, either at our office or through our online ordering system. Tickets ordered online can be held for pickup at our office or mailed to your home address.

Eligible Stanford employees can purchase tickets on a monthly recurring basis via pre-tax payroll deduction for further savings. Enroll online by April 9 to start receiving tickets in May. Ticket supplies are limited for one-time sales online or at our office, so eligible employees are encouraged to use monthly recurring orders to ensure availability.

The ACE (Altamont Commuter Express) Train runs between Stockton and San Jose, serving the following stations: Stockton, Lathrop-Manteca, Tracy, Vasco Road, Livermore, Pleasanton, Fremont, Great America, and San Jose Diridon. Stanford commuters can transfer at the Fremont station to the Line U East Bay Express bus, which runs directly to campus (and is free with a Stanford ID). ACE Train also connects to Caltrain at San Jose Diridon station. Commuters to the main campus or Research Park can take Caltrain to the Palo Alto station on University Avenue, then transfer to a free Marguerite shuttle or bike or walk to their Stanford destination.

Request a free transit and/or bike commute plan or send email to commuteclub@stanford.edu for assistance.

1 It is important for Parking & Transportation Services to communicate parking and alternative-transportation information to the campus. Under the 2000 General Use Permit (campus growth plan approved by Santa Clara County), the campus has a goal of "no net new peak-hour commute trips" over the life of the permit and must accommodate campus growth with a limited number of new parking spaces. Failure to achieve this goal will result in the campus being faced with costly mitigation measures.
