1) P&TS will have reduced office hours on Dec. 13 and will close from Dec. 19 through Jan. 2

Parking enforcement will be limited during the university's winter break

Parking & Transportation Services will offer reduced hours on Dec. 13, opening only from 7:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. that day. In addition, the P&TS office will close from Dec. 19 through Jan. 2 for the university's winter break.

Place orders for permits before Dec. 14. Did you know that some of the longest lines at Parking & Transportation Services occur during the first week in January? Avoid standing in line by ordering parking permits online, by fax, or email by Dec. 14, the last day this year to place orders electronically. Customers with monthly permits who cannot order online before Dec. 14 should send an application by fax to 650.724.8676 or by email to transportation@stanford.edu. When ordering, request permit delivery by mail or select "pick up" at the P&TS "Will Call" window to eliminate or reduce a long wait in line.

Special notice for new or terminating employees: Employees who end their employment in December must return their long-term parking permits by Dec. 14 at noon to avoid being charged through payroll deduction for January 2012. Employees returning permits may request a courtesy permit to cover the remainder of December. During the winter closure, new hospital employees who don't yet have a permit may park in any "C" parking space, since "C" parking restrictions will not be enforced during the winter break.

Winter break parking enforcement: During the winter break (Dec. 19 through Jan. 2), parking permit enforcement will be suspended in all "C" parking lots, and in most visitor/meter spaces and "A" lots, with the exception of parking facilities serving the hospital and School of Medicine. "A" parking spaces, visitor/meter spaces, Service/University Vehicle spaces, and timed loading zones/spaces will be enforced during the closure in these lots: L-9 (Quarry Extension), L-15 (Beckman/LKSC visitor lot), L-16 (MSOB lot), and Parking Structures 1 and 4.

Parking restrictions in residential lots and special zones, such as disabled parking, red zones, fire lanes, and special permit stalls, will be enforced 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Please refer to our Parking and Circulation Map (PDF) for parking locations and designations.

If you have questions, please send an email to transportation@stanford.edu.

2) Marguerite holiday schedules will be in effect during the Stanford University winter break

There will be limited service to the Medical Center from Dec. 19 through Jan. 2

Most Marguerite service will be suspended from Dec. 19 through Jan. 2 for the university winter break. The Shopping Express, Line N, and Line O will operate on regular schedules through Sunday, Dec. 18, and will resume on Tuesday, Jan. 3. Regular service on other routes not listed below will resume on Jan. 3. Limited Marguerite service will be offered during the winter closure, as follows:

Alternatives to Marguerite shuttle service during the winter break include Zipcar car sharing at Stanford and Enterprise Rent-A-Car on campus. Please note that the campus Enterprise office will be closed on Dec. 24, Dec. 25, and Jan. 1.

If you have questions regarding the Marguerite shuttle service or transit options, send an email to transportation@stanford.edu. Contact us before Dec. 14 if questions pertain to the winter break.

3) Need transportation or want to share the costs for holiday travel?

Consider these sustainable transportation options, which could help you save

Whether you are going to the airport, traveling locally, or heading out of town, there are a number of sustainable transportation options for the Stanford community.

Take transit to the airport

Take a shuttle to the airport:

Use Zimride at Stanford to carpool (it’s free!)
Use Zimride at Stanford to find others at Stanford heading the same way. As a driver or passenger, you can use this service to share the costs of your trip or to help get you where you need to go.

Consider Enterprise Rent-A-Car on campus

Holiday hours: The campus Enterprise office will be closed on Dec. 24, Dec. 25, and Jan. 1.

1 It is important for Parking & Transportation Services to communicate parking and alternative-transportation information to the campus. Under the 2000 General Use Permit (campus growth plan approved by Santa Clara County), the campus has a goal of "no net new peak-hour commute trips" over the life of the permit and must accommodate campus growth with a limited number of new parking spaces. Failure to achieve this goal will result in the campus being faced with costly mitigation measures.
