2) Need transportation or want to share the costs for Thanksgiving travel?

Consider these sustainable transportation options to help you save

Whether you are going to the airport, traveling locally, or heading out of town, there are a number of sustainable transportation options that make Thanksgiving travel easier for the Stanford community.

Take transit or a shuttle to the airport

Use Zimride at Stanford to share the ride (it’s free!)

Use Zimride at Stanford to find others at Stanford heading the same way. As a driver or passenger, you can use this service to share the costs of your trip or to help get you where you need to go. Plus, if you post a ride in November, you'll be automatically entered to win an iPad, courtesy of Zimride!

Consider Enterprise Rent-A-Car on campus

Holiday hours: The campus Enterprise office will be closed on Thanksgiving Day (Nov. 22), as well as Nov. 24 and 25. They will be open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 23.

3) Thanksgiving parking enforcement and transit service

Most transit to operate on Sunday schedules; on-campus parking enforcement will be limited

Parking enforcement: During the Thanksgiving holiday (Nov. 22 and 23), unless otherwise posted, parking permit enforcement will be suspended in all 'C' parking lots, most visitor/meter spaces, and in most 'A' lots, with the exception of parking facilities serving the hospital and School of Medicine. 'A' parking spaces, visitor/meter spaces, Service/University Vehicle spaces, and timed loading zones/spaces will be enforced during the holiday closure as follows.

These parking areas enforced during the holiday:

Parking restrictions in residential lots (except shared lots) and special zones, such as disabled parking, red zones, fire lanes, and special-permit-only spaces, will be enforced 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Please refer to our Parking and Circulation Map (PDF) for parking locations and designations.

Marguerite and other transit service: All Marguerite service will be suspended on Thursday, Nov. 22, and Friday, Nov. 23, except the following lines:

Operating Thursday, Nov. 22, and Friday, Nov. 23:

Operating Friday, Nov. 23:

Other Bay Area transit agencies (including the Line U and Dumbarton Express) will operate on Sunday schedules on Nov. 22 and regular schedules on Nov. 23. Exceptions include Caltrain, which will operate on a Saturday schedule on Nov. 23, and VTA, which will suspend Express Bus, Limited Stop bus, and Commuter Express Light Rail service on Nov. 23.

If you have questions, please send an email to transportation@stanford.edu or contact the appropriate transit agency directly.

4) Participate in the 2012 Fall Promotion to enter drawings for $3,500 or $1,500 grand prizes

Eligible employees can return a long-term parking permit to receive up to a $100 bonus

5) Avoid long lines at P&TS in January

Order in advance and online

Did you know that some of the longest lines at the P&TS office occur during the first week of January? If your permit expires in December, and you need a new permit beginning in January, or if you need another type of transaction through our office, avoid long lines by placing your order by Dec. 14 to receive item(s) before the winter closure in December.

For greater convenience and time savings, order online and request mail delivery or “Will Call” pick up, saving you a trip to P&TS or expediting your transaction when you come in person. Please note that P&TS is open Monday through Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 5 p.m., except holidays, and except Dec. 20, when the office has reduced hours of 7:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. P&TS will be closed for winter break from Dec. 24 through Jan. 6.

If you need assistance on the timing of your order, please contact us at transportation@stanford.edu or 650.723.9362.

1 It is important for Parking & Transportation Services to communicate parking and alternative-transportation information to the campus. Under the 2000 General Use Permit (campus growth plan approved by Santa Clara County), the campus has a goal of "no net new peak-hour commute trips" over the life of the permit and must accommodate campus growth with a limited number of new parking spaces. Failure to achieve this goal will result in the university being faced with costly mitigation measures.
