2011 Retirement of Thomas K. Seligman

Thomas K. Seligman stepped down as the John and Jill Freidenrich Director of the Cantor Arts Center on December 31, 2011. Under his two decades of leadership, the museum was rebuilt, its holdings strengthened, and its education program expanded. Gifts in his honor, announced at a retirement event for Seligman on Dec. 5, 2011, included 57 artworks to add to the Center’s comprehensive collection and donations from more than 200 people to establish a fund to support student engagement in the Cantor Arts Center’s Education Department. In a further tribute to Seligman, the Center’s African gallery was named for him through a gift by Diane Christensen. Seligman continued research and teaching at Stanford for three additional years as the Freidenrich Director Emeritus.
