Inpatient Comprehensive Care Program
The Comprehensive Care Program (CCP) is a specialized 15 bed unit that uses a multidisciplinary approach in the treatment of patients with illnesses that have both medical and psychological components. These include children and adolescents with eating disorders, or chronic illnesses such as diabetes and asthma when medical management is being complicated by psychological issues. A team of adolescent medicine specialists and child and adolescent psychiatrists work together to ensure that all patients and their families receive the highest level of care. Other team members include teachers, recreational/art/occupational/physical therapists, dieticians, social workers, and psychiatrically and medically trained nurses to ensure that children can return to their normal lives as easily as possible.
Patients admitted to this service are medically compromised as a result of their illness. Admission is designed to treat both the medical and psychological aspects of the illness, until patients have become medically stable and may transition to further outpatient treatment to support their recovery. Patients usually stay at the CCP for a relatively brief period (10-20 days) and upon discharge may continue treatment in our outpatient clinics.
Treatment includes evaluation of psychiatric conditions that may complicate treatment of eating disorders and chronic illness, such as depression, obsessive compulsive disorder, and anxiety disorders.

- Medical management to prevent or detect complications
- Nutritional assessment and management
- Evaluation of growth and development
- Assessment and management of osteopenia and osteoporosis
- Group and milieu treatment
- Psychiatric medication evaluation and monitoring
- Individual therapy
- Cognitive behavioral therapy
- Interpersonal therapy
- Psychodynamic therapy
- Family-based therapy

Teen and Young Adult Clinic
The Teen and Young Adult Clinic operates on Monday, Wednesday, Thursday and Fridays from 1:00 to 5:00 P.M. It is located at Center for Adolescent Health at Castro Commons, 1174 Castro Street, Suite 250, Mountain View. Please call (650) 694-0600 for appointments.
The Teen and Young Adult Clinic provides comprehensive, confidential health services for adolescents between the ages of 12 and 21 years of age.
- General health check-ups for school sports or employment
- Primary health care for healthy adolescents and adolescents with chronic illness
- Immunizations
- Urgent Health Care
- Birth control (condoms, pills, shots, patches or vaginal rings)
- Pregnancy counseling and testing
- Sexually transmitted infection testing and treatment
- HIV testing and counseling
- Evaluation and treatment of menstrual disorders, including:
- Absent periods (amenorrhea)
- Irregular periods
- Excessive bleeding
- Menstrual cramps
- Acne treatment
- Growth and development concerns
- Referrals for counseling for school, family, social and emotional issues

The Eating Disorders Clinic is a multidisciplinary team jointly directed by the Division of Adolescent Medicine and the Department of Child Psychiatry. It provides an initial comprehensive medical and psychiatric evaluation, followed by continuing medical, psychiatric, and nutritional evaluation and treatment for children and teenagers with eating disorder problems, including:
- Anorexia nervosa
- Bulimia nervosa
- Eating Disorders not otherwise specified (EDNOS), including the female athlete triad.
