How To Delete the Cache and Cookie Files in Your Web Browser
Occasionally, login problems can be caused by a corrupted cookie file in your web browser. Deleting the cache and cookie files in your web browser and restarting it can often solve the problem and allow you to log in successfully.

STEP-BY-STEP SOLUTIONS
To delete only Stanford-related cookies and all cache files in Microsoft Internet Explorer 9, 10 or 11, please follow the instructions outlined below.
- Start Internet Explorer.
- On the Tools in the upper right corner of the browser window, click Internet Options, and then click the General tab.
- On the General tab, under Browsing History, click on the Settings button. Click the View Files button.
- On the Temporary Internet Files window, click the View menu, then click Details.
- Click the Internet Address column header. Delete any cookies with the word "Stanford" in the Internet address.
To delete a cookie, click a cookie file, and then press the Delete key on your keyboard. If you are prompted to confirm that you want to delete the file, click Yes. Repeat this step for each cookie file.

- On the Delete Browsing History window, only select the check boxes next to Cookies and Temporary Internet Files. Uncheck the remaining boxes.
- Click the Delete button at the bottom of the Delete Browsing History window.
- Click the OK button to close the Internet Options window.
To delete all cookie and cache files in Microsoft Internet Explorer 9, 10 or 11, please follow the instructions outlined below.
- Start Internet Explorer.

Please note: If you haven't deleted the cookies and cache from your computer in a while, it may take a minute or two for your computer to delete the cookies and cache from your web browser. - You will get a confirmation at the bottom of the window once it has successfully cleared your cache and cookies.

A window will pop up stating, "Are you sure you want to delete all temporary Internet Explorer files?". Click the Yes button. - On the Delete Browsing History window click on the Delete Files button under Cookies.
A window will pop up stating, "Are you sure you want to delete all cookies in the Temporary Internet Files folder?". Click the Yes button.
Please note: If you haven't deleted the cookies and cache from your computer in a while, it may take a minute or two for your computer to delete the cookies and cache from your web browser. - Click the OK button to close the Internet Options window.
To delete only Stanford-related cookies and all cache files in Firefox, please follow the below instructions.
- Start Firefox.
- Click on the Tools menu in the upper right corner of the browser window, click Options.
- On the Privacy tab, under History, click on the remove individual cookies link.
- On the Cookies window, type "stanford" in the search bar (without the quotations).
- After the list refreshes itself, click the Remove All Cookies button.
- To delete the cache from your web browser, from the Privacy tab, click on the clear your recent history link.
- Click the drop down menu next to Time range to clear and choose Everything.
- Click the arrow next to Details, to view the options you may clear.
- Ensure that the box next to Cache is checked. You may choose to clear other options if you wish, but only the Cache box needs to be checked.
- Click on the Clear Now button.
- Click the OK button to close the Options window.
To delete all cookie and cache files in Firefox, please follow the below instructions.
- Start FireFox.
- Click on the Tools menu in the upper right corner of the browser window, click on Options.
- On the Privacy tab, under History, click on the clear your recent history link.
- Click the drop down menu next to Time range to clear and choose Everything.
- Click the arrow next to Details, to view the options you may clear.
- Ensure that the boxes next to both Cookies and Cache are checked. You may choose to clear other options if you wish, but only the Cookies and Cache boxes are required to be checked.

- Start Chrome.

- In the Search cookies field, type "stanford" (without the quotations).
- After the list refreshes itself, Click the Remove all shown button.
- To clear all cache files, on the Settings page under Privacy, click the Clear browsing data button.
- Click the drop down menu next to Obliterate the following items from: and select the beginning of time.
- Ensure that the box next to Cached images and files is checked. You may choose to clear other options if you wish, but only this boxes is required to be checked.
- Click the Clear Browsing Data button. Then close the tab.
To delete all cookie and cache files in Chrome, please follow the instructions outlined below.
- Start Chrome.
- Click on the Menu icon in the upper right corner of the browser window and select History from the menu.
- Click on the the Clear browsing data button.
- Click the drop down menu next to Obliterate the following items from: and select the beginning of time.
- Ensure that the boxes next to both Cookies and other site and plug-in data and Cached images and files are checked. You may choose to clear other options if you wish, but only these boxes are required to be checked.

To delete only Stanford cookies from Safari 6.x, please follow the instructions below.
- Start Safari.
- From the Safari menu, select Preferences.
- Click on the Privacy Tab.
- Under Cookies and other website data: click the Details button.
- In the search field, type "stanford" (without the quotations).
- After the list refreshes itself, click Remove All, then click Done.
- Click the red circle button in the upper left corner to close the Privacy window.
To delete all the cookie and cache files in Safari: 6.x, please follow the instructions below.
- Start Safari
- From the Safari menu select Reset Safari.
- Ensure that only the Remove all website data box has a check mark. You may choose to clear other options if you wish, but only the Remove all website data box is required to have a check mark.
- Click the Reset button to delete all cookie and cache files.
To delete only Stanford-related cookies and all cache files in Firefox, please follow the below instructions.
- Start Firefox.

- If you are using an Internet accelerator program or Cookie-blocking program (such as NetSonic, GuardDog, Norton's CrashGuard, or Netcelerator), you must turn it off before accessing your account.
- Are you behind a firewall? If you are using Zone Alarm or eTrust Personal firewall, you will need to allow third party cookies and remove the check mark in the "remove private header information" box for both www.stanfordalumni.org and secure.postoffice.net.
