Honoraries

Honorary members of Cap and Gown are women at Stanford whose work and lives have had a substantial impact on the lives of students.  Honoraries are chosen by the actives, although the Alumnae Board may assist them by making suggestions.  Wives of faculty and administrators in 1904 played an important role in guiding the young founders as they created Cap and Gown, and the decision to have honorary membership undoubtedly rose from this close collaboration.

Honorary is a class of membership we cherish.  Honorary members chosen recently by the actives included LaDoris Cordell, JD ’74, Rebecca Freeland, ’04, Paola Gianturco, ’61, and Julie Lythcott-Haims, ’89.  There are currently 29 honorary members.
