Fitness Center Supervisor

The Stanford University’s Department of Athletics, Physical Education and Recreation has an opening for a part-time fitness center supervisors, available immediately. This position will monitor the fitness center areas in the ACSR and the AOERC.

This is an exciting opportunity for someone with a background and interest in fitness and customer service. The ideal candidate would be someone who has great interpersonal skills, self-motivated, organized, able to clean and take initiative, and lift up to 45 lbs (at times). This is a non-benefited casual position. Work hours will vary, please reference job description here. Applicants can expect to work 10-20 hours per week.

Hiring Shifts:
M-F: 5:00 a.m. – 10:00 a.m., 10:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m., 2:00 p.m. – 6:00 p.m., 6:00 p.m. – 1:00 a.m.
Sat: 9:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m., 1:00 p.m. – 5:00 p.m., 5:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m.
Sun: 9:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m., 2:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m., 7:00 p.m. – 1:00 a.m.

Summary:
Responsible for working the fitness desk area, cleaning fitness equipment, greeting customers, answering the phone, and assisting people in signing into training and fitness classes. Additional responsibilities will include but are not limited to keeping the Fitness Center clean, and organized.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following:
• Work a minimum of 2 shifts per week.
• Clean fitness center equipment, including but not limited to, strength equipment, cardio equipment, free weights, fitness flooring, equipment mats.
• Provide great customer service for members and guest, this includes being knowledgeable about recreation programming services.
• Support and assist the staff (Personal Trainers, BeWell Assessors, Fitness Center Agent, and Assistant Manager of Fitness Facilities.)
• Attend staff meetings as requested by program and department.
• Responsible for reading, understanding and following guidelines in DAPER fitness Center Manual.
• Maintain a safe and clean environment by monitoring constantly and addressing cleanliness issues immediately.
• Exercise good interpersonal skills by gladly assisting others to accomplish the work of the organization, even if it’s outside the scope of regular duties.
• Check in and out fitness equipment to patrons.
• Enforce Fitness Center policies and regulations.
• Report problems, suggestions, or equipment issues immediately to the direct supervisor.
• Must be able to lift, 45 lb plates as well as heavier weights at times.

Education and Experience Required
A high school diploma, some college is preferred. American Red Cross CPR and First Aid certification must be obtained within three months of employment.

Ability to demonstrate professional public relations skills, interpersonal and communication skills. Prioritize tasks, Operate office machines and equipment. Be trained on new techniques and jobs. Work days, evenings and weekends a minimum of two shifts per week. Problem Solve.

Work Environment:
The environment can be moderately loud at times with respect to weights, fitness classes, cardio machine usage.
