Intramural Sports Employment Openings

The success of our program is a direct result of student involvement. All men and women are encouraged to participate, not only at the competitive level, but also as staff members. Students are the front line employees of the Intramural Sports program. As such, the Intramural Sports program hires students to fill roles as scorekeepers, officials, and supervisors throughout the year. All employment opportunities within Intramural Sports are listed below.

Intramural Sport Manager

Salary Range: $16.25/hour-$18.25/hour
Reports To: Assistant Director of Intramural Sports

Role and Responsibilities:

The purpose of this position: To provide a well rounded individual that is knowledgeable and experienced with various sports that can assume the role of a manager. That is able to oversee programs and report back critical information to the Assistant Director. The Intramural Manager ensures that the program provides sporting opportunities, tournaments, leagues and a fun recreationally competitive environment for all students and faculty.

  • Responsible for monitoring a single league and being present for multiple games a week, while also performing day to day office tasks.
  • Responsible for enforcing league rules in games and having the ability to observe where league rules may need to be adjusted.
  • Assisting the Assistant Director in adjusting league rules.
  • Ensure league competition is balanced.
  • Counsel and adjust teams out of their division if the division they are in seems unfair.
  • Compile ejection, misconduct, forfeit, and contest forms at the end of the week and review with Assistant Director of Intramural Sports.
  • Maintain and update sportsmanship ratings throughout the quarter.
  • Responsible for assisting with Captains meetings at the beginning of each quarter.
  • Monitor teams and player registration with the use of Sportifik.
  • Assist with reinstatement process of team or players.

Qualifications and Education Requirements:

  • Genuine interest in a variety of individuals and commitment to providing quality service.
  • Previous supervisory experience, preferably in sports or fitness environment.
  • Previous officiating experience.
  • Previous administrative/ managerial responsibilities.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Evening and weekends are required.

Preferred Skills:
At least 3-5 years of specific sport playing or coaching experience. Knowledge or oversight in individual sporting leagues. High level of knowledge in various sports and their rules. Some knowledge or experience operating and using the Sportifik system.

Intramural Sports Marketing Supervisor

Salary Range: $16.00/hour-$18.25/hour
Reports To: Assistant Director of Intramural Sports

Role and Responsibilities:

The purpose of the Intramural Sports Marketing supervisor is to enhance and develop the program through social media and digital marketing efforts:

  • Create and manage at least 2 intramural video promotions throughout the quarter
  • Responsible for capturing Intramural Championships and developing archive for participants and program
  • Promotion of Intramural Registration, One day tournaments and play off weeks
  • Update all message boards, cork boards with up to date information regarding intramural sports on a weekly basis
  • Assist with the implementation of the Officials Training Program through video training with Assistant Director of Intramurals
  • Assist with the Marketing department and any special requests regarding Intramural events
  • Assist the development of Intramural web page
  • Monitor, edit and control all social media feeds such as Facebook, Instagram, Twitter and Youtube.

Qualifications and Education Requirements:

  • Bachelors degree in Digital Marketing or Video Coordinating
  • 2-5 years work experience with digital marketing
  • Interest in Sports and Recreation
  • Able to work up to 20 hours a week, some hours in the evening 5p-11p
  • Video editing skills
  • Ability to use various Go Pro’s and other cameras

Intramural Sport Supervisor

Salary Range: $14.25/hour-$17.00/hour
Reports To: Assistant Director of Intramural Sports

Purpose:
The Intramural Sports Supervisor is responsible for the conduct and on-site operation of intramural contests, ensuring a fair, fun, and safe game environment for all intramural participants. The Intramural Sports Supervisor supervises all intramural events and may officiate on an as needed basis.

Duties and Responsibilities:

      • Inspect all participant and game equipment to ensure rule compliance and support safety measures, and oversee preparation/breakdown of the game playing area, including the setup and returning of equipment at the conclusion of events. Notify Assistant Director of any issues with equipment and/or playing areas.
      • Assure that all score sheets are prepared, distributed, and collected after each contest.
      • Ensure that participants check-in prior to start of contest (sign-in and ID collection), and answer questions regarding the rules.
      • Ensuring that contests begin on time, and that scorekeeping and timing of contests are conducted properly.
      • Maintain control of all aspects of the game, including participant and spectator conduct. Resolve conflicts as needed.
      • Evaluate IM officials with the supervision of Assistant Director of Intramurals.
      • Properly complete Injury and Incident Report Forms as needed. Note any unsportsmanlike conduct, and contact Assistant Director of Intramural Sports
      • Ensure a safe environment for all staff and participants.
      • Activate emergency action plans appropriately, and make decisions during inclement weather and/or difficult situations regarding game environment.
      • Educate participants on sports rules and intramural policies and procedures
      • Provide a friendly, welcoming, inclusive, service-oriented environment.
      • Attend and contribute to all mandatory meetings.
      • Represent the Campus Recreation Program and the Department of Athletics and Recreation in a professional manner at all times.
      • Officiate various Intramural Sports as needed

Required Qualifications:

      • Possess or obtain certifications in American Red Cross CPR/AED and First Aid.
      • Willingness and ability to work afternoon, evening, and weekend hours.
      • 2-5 years experience in specific sports

Intramural Sports Official

Salary Range: $13.25/hour-$15.25/hour
Reports To: Sport Supervisor
Shift Times: Depending on the sport/season, games are scheduled anywhere between
4 p.m. – 11 p.m. Monday – Friday; and between 11 a.m. – 7 p.m. on Saturdays and Sundays. Officials are also called upon to staff Tournaments.

General Description:

          • Responsible for the complete game control of all officiated Intramural contests
          • Arrive prepared and on time to all scheduled shifts
          • Call all Intramural contests with complete honesty and integrity
          • Maintain an appropriate professional demeanor at all times
          • Manage player and spectators on the field/court
          • Help patrons learn more about the sport they are participating in
          • Participate in official evaluations
          • Act as an ambassador for Stanford Recreation
          • Maintain an appropriate and professional demeanor at all times
          • Attend required training sessions and demonstrate proficiency in understanding of rules and officiating
          • Enforce established rules during intramural competitions
          • Enforce and evaluate sportsmanship of intramural teams and participants
          • Ensure a safe environment for intramural participants by inspecting the playing area before the competition, and creating a safe environment for play
          • Check in all participants and teams before each competition. In addition to checking them in also ensure correct attire of each participant, no jewelry or prohibited equipment etc.
          • Rotate between on field official and score official. Score official will keep score sheet updated during play and keep detailed participant statistics
          • Run captain’s meetings prior to each competition
          • Ensure proper use of all university equipment by program participants
          • Handle on site disputes involving player conflict and rule interpretation
          • Attend all addition in-service training sessions throughout the year
          • Other duties as assigned

Required Qualifications:

          • Official must commit to working 5-8 hours per week
          • Mandatory attendance at all Officials Clinics Preferred Qualifications
          • Previous paid experience as an official preferred
          • American Red Cross First Aid / CPR / AED certifications highly preferred, or must obtain within 3 months of hire
