Research Interests

Poverty and Inequality, Latin American Politics, Redistributive Programs and Politics in the Andean Region, Socialism in Latin America.

Bio

Elena is the program manager for FSI's Global Student Fellows program and several new initiatives at the institute, including the Global Development and Poverty Initiative and the Mexico Initiative. She joined FSI in 2011 as the research program associate for the Program on Poverty and Governance at CDDRL. She is also the field liaison for the FSI summer field research internship in Guatemala.

Before joining FSI, she received her MA in Latin American Studies and a BA with Honors in International Relations, both from Stanford University. Her thesis focused on ethnopopulism and inequality in Bolivia's social reform.
