Dr. Douglass C. North, Senior Fellow at the Hoover Institution, passed away on November 23rd, 2015 at the age of 95. Dr. North was an early collaborator in GPC’s research and helped advance GPC's work on the transaction costs associated with cross-national infrastructure projects.
The idea of selling membership into society is not new, but it has taken on new life of late. Considering this trend, a recent paper by authors including GPC's Dr. Ashby Monk explores if Immigrant Investment Funds (IIFs) could become a new source of infrastructure funding. The paper also considers how IIFs could potentially help solve urgent problems surrounding migration, refugees and related public attitudes.
The GPC’s Dr. Rajiv Sharma delivered a keynote talk at the European Commission in Brussels last week at a High Level Conference on Boosting Investments in Transport. The main message of Dr Sharma’s talk was that government’s should recognize the value of partnering with true long-term investment partners for the delivery of their infrastructure needs.
