Department of Medicine
The Stanford Department of Medicine (DoM) comprises 190 full-time faculty distributed across 14 divisions. Among the 125 AAMC Medical Schools, Stanford's DoM ranks 63rd in size, but is second in NIH research dollars per faculty FTE. The DoM includes 41 members of the American Society for Clinical Investigation, 29 of the Association of American Physicians, and 13 members of the Institute of Medicine.

Within the Stanford DoM are several key resources that are available to trainees in the Division of Nephrology.
The Center for Clinical Investigation (CCI) is designed to assist in all the DoM divisions with the development, implementation, and conduct of research studies.
The Stanford Prevention Research Center is an interdisciplinary research program involving several departments in the School of Medicine. The mission of the Center is to improve individual and population health by developing and disseminating effective health promotion and chronic disease prevention and management strategies through interdisciplinary research, education, and community outreach.
Stanford Center for Biomedical Informatics is the academic home to scientists and trainees who develop and evaluate new methodologies for acquiring, representing, processing, and managing knowledge and data related to health, health care, and the biomedical sciences.
The Center for Health Policy and the Center for Primary Care and Outcomes Research are jointly administered centers at Stanford University that offer educational programs and conduct innovative, multidisciplinary research on critical issues of health policy and healthcare delivery.
The School of Medicine (SoM) offers innumerable opportunities to participate in basic and translational research. In addition to the opportunities in the Division of Nephrology and Department of Medicine, the SoM houses more than 30 specialized research centers in which Nephrology trainees might participate.
