Physician Scientist Track
Stanford Integrated Residency and Fellowship Research Program
The Stanford Integrated Residency and Fellowship Research Program is designed to encourage and support physician-scientists on their research paths. It is open to MD/PhD residents and other residents who have had extensive prior research experience. In addition to gaining mentorship through the Stanford Society of Physician Scholars (SSPS), this program allows research-focused residents to have dedicated funding for a Stanford fellowship.
Selection Process
Two to four pediatrics residents will be selected based on their interest in applying to a pediatrics fellowship program and commitment to a career in research. Potential candidates will be identified through self-nomination during their residency interviews or during residency. A committee will select the residents accepted into the program based on past training, research experience, their personal statement, and interviews.
Description of the Program
- Residents have the opportunity for dedicated research time during residency (up to 6 months on the categorical pediatrics track, 11 months on the Alternative Research Pathway, and 8 months on the Integrated Research Pathway).
- Residents will have the opportunity to meet with and be mentored by a number of potential research and career mentors.
- Residents will be highly competitive for a fellowship position of their choice provided all clinical competencies are achieved.
- Residents will be funded during their fellowship training if they choose to stay at Stanford.
- Residents will be encouraged to apply for the Pediatric Scientist Development Program (PSDP).
