McCormick and Gabilan Faculty Awards
2019 Call for Applications

Summary: Internal funding opportunity for all Stanford University School of Medicine faculty in all tracks, including clinician educators, who are within 7 years of their first faculty appointment at the time the award is initiated. This is open to women pursuing advancement, or to men or women who support the advancement of women in medicine and/or medical research.   (See eligibility below).

Deadline:   Monday, April 15, 2019, 5 p.m. (see application guidelines below)



Amount of funding:
Awards are unrestricted and will be for $30,000 to be used for up to two years. 
The committee expects to make four awards. 
Funds will be awarded on a competitive basis. Selection will be made by a committee convened by the Office of Faculty Development and Diversity. Recipients must provide a progress report after the first year of research if the award will be used over two years, as well as a final outcome paper.

Purpose:
The Office of Faculty Development and Diversity of the Stanford University School of Medicine invites applications for the 2019 McCormick and Gabilan Faculty Awards. The McCormick Funds were established to support the advancement of women in medicine and/or medical research directly, or by supporting the mentoring, training and encouragement of women pursuing the study of medicine, in teaching medicine, and engaging in medical research. In addition, up to two applicants will be nominated to the Vice Provost for Faculty Development and Diversity to receive the Gabilan Fellowship. Gabilan Fellows will be identified among this year’s PhD applicants with support from the Gabilan Funds. For more information on current Gabilan Fellows, see here >>.  In addition to financial support, the McCormick and Gabilan Fellows will benefit from engagement in a multi-disciplinary community of scientists who offer collegiality and mentorship for the advancement of women in STEM fields. 2018 Award Recipients can be found at the following link:

Proposals should be no more than 3 pages, excluding references, and should include the following:
Specific aims; Background and significance; Preliminary work; Project design and methods, References
(Format: single-spaced, ½ inch margins, Arial or Helvetica size 11 or larger font)

3) Curriculum vitae and biosketch

4) Statement describing the way in which the proposed award would support the advancement of women in medicine or medical research at Stanford

5) Listing of current and pending other support

6) Proposed budget

7) Two letters of support addressed to the Office of Faculty Development and Diversity internal review committee:
