New website offers links to Stanford's global research

Wondering what Stanford research is under way in sub-Saharan Africa? Maybe you're curious about what faculty members are doing in Eurasia, or whether any Portuguese language courses are coming up.

If there's an international angle connected to any bit of Stanford scholarship, it now can be easily found through a new website.

The Stanford Global Gateway, which officially launches tomorrow at http://global.stanford.edu, is something of a one-stop shop for discovering the university's overseas interests.

"Our two goals for the site are to increase faculty connections and to make international activities more visible to potential students, outside collaborators, alumni and the general public," said Whitney Sparks, the site's content manager. "We're pointing to different places across Stanford's campus and using Internet resources so people could get more information about what the university is doing around the world."

The website, which is run by Stanford's Freeman Spogli Institute for International Studies, appears with the invitation to "Explore our world." Clicking on any section of the onscreen world map will lead users to lists of research, faculty and courses concentrating on that region of the globe. More information about those topics is just another click away.

The site also can be searched by faculty or course subject, and includes information on fellowships, grants and other funding sources for students, faculty and other scholars heading abroad.

By the fall, the site will include a calendar featuring overseas events and links to relevant features on Stanford on iTunes U and YouTube.
