Meet The Council

John Whitworth

President

John Whitworth is a senior studying mechanical engineering and computer science. He has most recently been living in Anchorage, Alaska and before that he was across the ocean in Abu Dhabi, UAE. John is an experienced rock climber, skier (alpine and nordic), and backpacker. In the world of SOE, he has been competing with the Stanford Climbing Team for 3 years and is both a Trip Facilitator and an Outdoor Apprentice Educator. John has led SPOT, taught Outdoor Leadership, and led Outdoor Leadership Practicums. He is a certified Wilderness First Responder and has a Professional Climbing Instructors Association certification. He previously served as Outfitting Chair on the council.

Jack Lane

Vice President

Jack spent his youth hiking, backpacking, and cross-country skiing around the Colorado Rocky Mountains. A competitive but landlocked swimmer before coming to Stanford, Jack has only recently formed a deep bond with the Ocean, and escapes to the sea as often as possible to surf or swim in blue water. Jack values honesty, community, and meaningful personal relationships, and strongly believes that experiential outdoor education provides an invaluable means to those ends. Jack is a senior studying Earth Systems and has spent this past year working at the Outdoor Center. He hopes to spend next spring at the Hopkins Marine Station while remaining active in the Stanford outdoor community from Monterey.

Paige Nethercutt

Financial Officer

Paige is a senior majoring in Science, Technology & Society (STS). Growing up in Santa Cruz, California, she developed a love and respect for the ocean at an early age, and enjoys swimming and stand-up paddleboarding. Since participating in SPOT as a freshman, Paige has served on the Crew and as a Trip Leader, and is thrilled to be on the Coordinator Team for SPOT 2015. Paige is stoked for the opportunity to help the administrative aspects of Stanford Outdoors run smoothly and get as many people outside as possible!

Emily Williams

Trips and Events Committee Chair

Emily is a senior majoring in Geological and Environmental Sciences. She grew up in a very flat part of England but has always loved the mountains. She enjoys backpacking, rock climbing and skiing – and generally living out of her tent as much as possible. Emily is a member of the Stanford Climbing Team, Adventure Program Leader, SPOT Leader and an Apprentice Educator. She loves introducing people to the outdoors and has lead two SPOT trips in addition to teaching Outdoor Leadership

Tyler McIntosh

Outfitting Committee Chair

Tyler McIntosh is a senior studying Earth Systems with a minor in Mechanical Engineering. Tyler has been passionate about the outdoors ever since he was born, raised, and set free in the open air of Jackson, Wyoming. Tyler’s introduction to SOE came as a SPOTlet in 2012. He is now a SPOT Leader, an active Trip Facilitator, a member of the Stanford Outdoor Center Staff, and has competed as a member of the Stanford Climbing Team for two years. Tyler is an avid skier (nordic and alpine), backpacker, rock climber, and mountain biker. He is excited to remain a part of the SOE community and help initiate adventures! As his Dad always says, “You don’t stop playing because you get old—you get old because you stop playing.”

Nikita Bogdanov

Apprentice Educator Representative

Nikita is a senior studying philosophy, with minors in physics and education. From Albuquerque, New Mexico, he enjoys skiing and backpacking and most recently has become interested in getting more into mountaineering and alpine climbing. First introduced to Stanford Outdoors as a SPOTlet, Nikita now serves as the Financial Officer for the Stanford Outdoor Outreach Program and is involved with Stanford Outdoor Education as an Apprentice Educator, SPOT leader, and TA for wilderness living skills and leadership courses. Nikita is interested pursuing outdoor adventure education and pre-hospital emergency services professionally. He holds a Wilderness EMT certification.

Skye Mooney

Outdoor House and Clubs Representative

Skye is a junior majoring in Human Biology with a concentration in Climate Change and Human Health. She spends her summers coaching freestyle skiing at Utah Olympic Park, working charter trips in Prince William Sound, Alaska, and backpacking in the high Uintah wilderness and her Winters going to school and competing in the Collegiate Freeskiing Tour. She is passionate about backcountry skiing, surfing, fly-fishing, biking, hiking, and just about anything outside. She is one of the founders of the Stanford Outdoor House and will be one of the Resident Assistants in the house next year. She has been working at the Stanford Outdoor Center since the beginning of her sophomore year and thinks of the Stanford outdoor community as a family. She is super excited to get more involved next year and would love to take on a role in SO council to help communicate the ideas of the students living in the Outdoor House.

Fiona Noonan

Outreach Program Representative

Fiona is a junior studying Earth Systems and French. She grew up in Oregon, where she spent lots of time camping, skiing, hiking, and rafting. Her love for nature and adventuring has since grown, leading her to spend last summer in Yellowstone and to continue exploring Northern California. Since coming to Stanford, Fiona has been part of SOE through SOOP and the climbing team. She’s beyond excited to finally lead SPOT this summer and to become one of SOOP’s Trips and Logistics Managers next year.

Grant Glazer

Officer at Large

Grant fell in love with Stanford Outdoors as a freshman on SPOT. Since then, he has maintained involvement with SOE as an apprentice educator, trip facilitator, SOOP leader, and employee of the outdoor center. Last year, along with a dedicated group of fellow stoke seekers, Grant helped to co-found the first ever Stanford Outdoor theme house. As an RA for the house’s pilot year, he hopes to help the house provide an exciting new dimension to the Stanford outdoors community at large. Beyond SOE, Grant enjoys running, backpacking, and adventuring with friends whenever possible.
