Members of the Stanford community – from students to doctors and library mapping experts – are organizing a range of efforts to help with rescue and recovery in Nepal following last month's devastating earthquake. Our own Stacey Maples, a manager at the Stanford Geospatial Center in Branner Earth Sciences Library, conducted workshops at which volunteers were trained to use OpenStreetMap, an open source and open data sharing tool, for disaster relief mapping.

An extensive archive of Israeli popular culture from the files of the magazines ‘Olam ha-kolno‘a [Cinema World; 1951-1974] and Lahiton [Hit Parade Newspaper; 1969-1987] has been acquired by the Stanford Libraries. The 20,000-plus photographs in the Lahiton-Cinema World collection document the Israeli popular music scene from the 1950s to the 1980s.

Stanford Libraries recently acquired a fragment comprising 49 folia from a decorated manuscript on vellum produced in France in the mid- to late- 13th century of the De Laudibus Beatae Mariae Virginis of Pseudo-Albertus Magnus. The acquisition augments Stanford’s growing collection of 13th-century manuscripts.
