The Stanford Patient Education Research Center offers the Diabetes Self-Management Program, the Chronic Pain Self-Management Program, Cancer: Thriving and Suriving Program, Tomando Control de su Salud (Spanish CDSMP), Programa de Manejo Personal de la Diabetes (Spanish DSMP), and the Positive Self-Management Program (PSMP - HIV) as web-based cross-training to those who have previously been trained as a Master Trainer in the 2012 Chronic Disease Self-Management Program (CDSMP).

The prerequisite for most of the cross-trainings is group face-to-face training for the 2012 Chronic Disease Self-Management Program (CDSMP), or web-based update training for the 2012 CDSMP. The prerequisite for the Manejo Personal de la Diabetes is 2013 Tomando Control de su Salud (either group face-to-face training or web-based).

What is the format for a web-based training?

You will be asked to complete and turn in pre-webinar assignments, and then attend a real time webinar facilitated by a T-Trainer. A group of 10-20 participants will meet through the webinar for up to 3 hours at a pre-set date and time.

How do I access the pre-webinar activities?

All cross-trainings require that you spend time reviewing training videos and completing training assignments before the webinar. Depending on the program, homework for the webinar can take up to 5 hours to complete. All training activities and videos can be found on the website. After you have registered, you will receive a temporary username and password to access the training site.

How do I access the webinar?

Stanford will send you an invitation via email to access the webinar. This email will contain the dates and times as well as any other instructions that you will need. There is also an instruction form that you can download from the specific program's training site.

The Tomando Control de su Salud and Programa de Manejo Personal de la Diabetes webinars are conducted in Spanish. Master Trainers wishing to be cross-trained in the Spanish programs must speak, write, and read Spanish fluently.

Do I need to have previous experience with web-based trainings?

No previous experience is required. However, if this is your first time participating in web-based trainings we recommend you schedule plenty of time to read and follow all pre-webinar instructions.

How do I register for cross-training?

A link to the trainings and the registration form is found on the menu on the right. The registration site will open in a new window. Information about the specific cross trainings can be found at the registration site.

Who can attend the Stanford web-based trainings?

With the exception of the arthritis cross-training, Stanford web-based trainings are designed primarily for Master Trainers. However, Leaders may participate only on a space-available basis. Reduced fees for Leaders apply.

What if I know someone else that wants to attend?

In order to get credit for attending a cross-training, each trainee needs to register for the training. Send them the link to this page.

Once I am cross-trained, can I cross-train CDSMP Leaders using the web format?

No. Only Stanford trainers can conduct web-based cross-trainings. Cross-training Leaders must be done in groups face-to-face using a cross-training manual provided in the cross-training.
