Stanford Classics in Theater

The purpose of Stanford Classics in Theater (SCIT) is to promote understanding of and engagement with classical theater through original research, rehearsal, and production.

SCIT aims to bring together students from various academic backgrounds and interests, primarily among the graduate students of the Department of Classics, but also including undergraduates, faculty and others from the broader Stanford community.

2014 saw SCIT's first venture into Roman comedy, with the glitz and glamour of gilded age San Francisco coming to the stage in a performance of Plautus' Casina. The show was performed on the Stanford campus in May, and in the fall entertained at Humanities West in San Francisco, SCIT's biggest stage yet! This year saw a return to SCIT's Aristophanic roots with a Silicon Valley version of The Birds entitled The Nerds, which appeared in May 2015 and will be reprised in San Francisco at the SCS/AIA Annual Meeting in January 2016.
