Manish Butte, MD, PhD

  • Manish J Butte
  • “Getting to know patients and families over many years is one of the real pleasures of being a doctor.”

I approach each patient as an individual, knowing that most immunological diseases are unique. I am interested in understanding the fundamental causes of each patient's immune disorder, and supporting integrative and alternative approaches to managing these chronic diseases, including the role of nutrition in health.

I like taking care of complex patients and helping them better understand the diseases they have. I also like knowing that the problems we work on in the laboratory have the potential to help many more people than I could ever see in clinic. In my lab, we are studying how T cells function in infections and in autoimmune diseases, and working to identify the genetic and immunological causes of recurrent, severe or unusual infections in children. We have also developed a small hand-held device that can help patients monitor their immune systems from a drop of blood.

I try to build long-term relationships with each of my patients; it is extremely gratifying to watch them grow from babies to older children. Getting to know patients and families over many years is one of the real pleasures of being a doctor.
