Carpool Credit

Our way of saying "thanks"

Carpool Credit is one of the main rewards of being a carpool member of the Stanford Commute Club. By becoming a member of the Commute Club, you will not only reduce costs associated with driving and parking, commute stress, air pollution, and traffic congestion, but each member of your carpool also will be eligible for up to $150 per year in Carpool Credit.

Stanford University is one of the few organizations rewarding its commuters financially for using alternative transportation, so why not join thousands of commuters who are being paid to relax? If you carpool to campus and are eligible, join the Commute Club to receive Carpool Credit to reduce or offset the cost of your parking permit.

If you don't currently carpool and want to find others at Stanford with whom to carpool or vanpool, sign up with Stanford’s free ridematching services or contact the Commute Club for help with your alternative commute.

Who is eligible and what do you get?

To receive Carpool Credit, you must meet all of the eligibility requirements for the Commute Club and must not have any Stanford parking permit other than the carpool permit, daily scratchers, or an "SH" permit, if applicable, during the time you are registered for the Commute Club.

Months Carpool Credit   Months Carpool Credit
1 $12.50   7 $87.50
2 $25   8 $100
3 $37.50   9 $112.50
4 $50   10 $125
5 $62.50   11 $137.50
6 $75   12 $150

Stanford’s carpool program offers Carpool Credit to partially offset the cost of your carpool permit. The cost of the "A," "C" or "Z" permit is shared equally among all members of the carpool, with each member paying his or her share of the cost of the permit (current permit rates). At the end of each academic quarter, each member receives $12.50 in Carpool Credit for each month of carpool eligibility in that quarter, as illustrated in the accompanying chart.

Please note, Anyone found to be in violation of the Commute Club and/or parking permit policies set forth by Parking & Transportation Services (P&TS) is subject to revocation of transportation incentives and/or parking privileges. Instances of egregious misconduct may result in further administrative, disciplinary, and/or legal action, up to and including termination of employment or expulsion.

Not sure you can commit to carpooling?

Joining the Commute Club doesn’t mean you can't ever drive to campus. As a Commute Club carpool member, you can request one free daily parking scratcher per month, and you can purchase up to seven daily parking scratchers per month for the times you need to drive separately.

You and your carpool partner each save by not buying two long-term permits You each get paid Carpool Credit You can purchase daily parking scratchers And you'll have this much more in your pocket than if you had a long-term permit
By forming a two-person ‘C’ or 'Z' carpool $180 $150 ...and drive separately once a week: -$180 (12 free plus 40 purchased 'C' or 'Z' scratchers) $150
...or drive separately once a month: $0 (12 free 'C' or 'Z' scratchers) $330
By forming a two-person ‘A’ carpool $486 $150 ...and drive separately once a week: -$440 (12 free plus 40 purchased 'A' scratchers) $196
...or drive separately once a month: $0 (12 free 'A' scratchers) $636

It’s easy to get daily parking scratchers. Request your one free daily parking scratcher per month by sending an email to transportation@stanford.edu. To purchase additional scratcher permits, you can order online and request mail delivery, so you don’t have to come to the P&TS office! For those eligible, you can choose pre-tax payroll deduction to maximize your savings.

Also, the Commute Club doesn't need to be a year-round commitment. You can enroll and cancel your membership as needed. For example, if you are taking a six-week class after work a few days a week, then you can drop out of the carpool and the Commute Club during the six weeks and join again when the class ends. We welcome your membership at any time and for any duration of one month or more! Just be sure to let the Commute Club know and return you parking permit if your carpool is no longer valid due to changes in membership or eligibility.

Using a carpool permit when it you are no longer part of a valid carpool is a violation of Stanford’s policy.
