Farmers' Markets Take Local Food to the Streets

With more than 30 farmers' markets in San Mateo County, Get Healthy partners worked together to start two new markets in East Palo Alto and Pescadero. These markets increase access to healthy, fresh and local produce for residents in the southern and coastal areas of San Mateo County.

School Gardens Bring the Classroom to Life

School gardens teach children about where food comes from, what makes healthy food healthy, and why it’s important to eat fresh fruits and vegetables. Over 50% of public schools in San Mateo County have gardens, and our goal is to have a garden in every school so every child gets to eat something he or she has planted.

Transforming Streets to Keep Us Healthy

One of the easiest ways to be active every day is to walk, bike and use public transportation. Many people in San Mateo County cannot walk or bike because it isn’t safe. We can build physical activity back into our lives by making it safer to walk, bike, or take the bus, train or BART.

Rethink Your Drink

Sugary drinks are one of the largest contributors to obesity in San Mateo County. There are many things you can do to reduce the amount of sugary drinks consumed. One way to make a big impact is to remove sugary drinks from vending machines and advocate for healthy beverage options.
