Stanford squash opened its 2014-15 season with three matches in Ithaca, N.Y., over the weekend, beating Williams and George Washington before falling to host Cornell.

In its season opener against Williams on Saturday, the Cardinal dominated the Ephs, 8-1. Freshman Sarah Bell, playing at the No. 1 spot in her first collegiate match, set the tone by cruising in straight sets. The next four matches went the distance, but Christie Huchro, captain Ally Huchro, Sarah Haig and Carolyn Gillette all prevailed in five sets to give Stanford the team victory.

Later Saturday, the Cardinal improved to 2-0 by beating George Washington 7-3. Bell, Christie Huchro and Ally Huchro won at the No. 1, 2 and 3 spots, respectively, to improve to 2-0 on their seasons. Ariel Posner, Tatyanna Dadabbo, Alex Yorke and Francesca Fleischer flexed the depth of this year's team by sweeping the matches from the seventh to 10th spots.

In the final match of the weekend on Sunday, Cornell proved too much for Stanford and took a 9-0 victory. Bell capped her impressive opening weekend by taking Michele Garceau to five sets at the No. 2 spot, but Garceau eventually pushed through for the win.

Stanford's next matches are set for Jan. 3, when the Cardinal will host Penn at 11 a.m. and Bates at 3 p.m. at the Arrillaga Center for Sports and Recreation.
