ANNAPOLIS, Md. – The Stanford sailing team competed at the Navy Fall Women’s interconference regatta this past weekend, finishing seventh.

Freshman skipper Maria El-Khazindar and sophomore crew Elena VandenBerg paced the Cardinal, winning the B-division with 48 points. In 10 races, El-Khazindar and Vandenberg won two and finished in the top five six times.

Junior skipper Maeve White and freshman crew Meg Gerli sailed in the A-division, finishing eighth with 72 points. The pair finished the weekend with a win and four top-four finishes.

Rounding out the Cardinal was freshman Olivia Gugliemini in the singlehanded division. Gugliemini, who took second two weeks ago at the PCCSC Women’s Singlehanded Championship, took 12th place in the singlehanded competition.

The Cardinal returns to action next weekend when it will send four teams to different corners of the country. Stanford will have a presence at the Captain Hurst Bowl in Hanover, New Hampshire, the Stoney Burke Regatta in Berkeley, California, the Truxton Umsted Memorial Regatta in Annapolis and the Yale Women’s in New Haven, Connecticut.
