STANFORD, Calif. – Sophomore forward Dorian Pickens finished with a career-high 24 points using a career-best six three-pointers, including the game-tying three with 7.9 seconds left. But Texas sunk the game-winner with 1.1 to play and left Maples Pavilion with a 75-73 victory over the Cardinal on Saturday night.

The Cardinal trailed by six with a little more than two minutes to play, but sophomore Michael Humphrey scored three straight times -- capped with a steal and emphatic breakaway dunk that pulled Stanford within 70-68 with 29 seconds to go.

The teams traded free throws before the Cardinal got the ball back with a chance to tie the game. Pickens connected from beyond the arc, but his heroics were thwarted when the Longhorns scored on the ensuing possession.

A halfcourt heave from Rosco Allen was off the mark, and Stanford's winning streak was halted at three.

Texas (8-3) led the entire way, including 41-35 at the half, and by as many as 12, 64-52 with 7:21 to play. At that point, the Cardinal went on a 10-2 run -- sparked by back-to-back threes from Pickens -- to get within striking distance in the closing minutes.

Pickens finished with a career-best 24 points on 6-of-7 shooting from beyond the arc. Rosco Allen added 19 points, while Humphrey scored 11 and led the team with seven rebounds. Marcus Allen had a career-high five steals along with eight points and a team-high four assists.

Stanford (5-4) played without leading rebounder Reid Travis, who was out with a stress fracture.
