BERKELEY, Calif. – The No. 2 Stanford men's gymnastics team collected two more victories, topping No. 3 Ohio State and No. 5 California with a season-high team score of 445.550, its' best road score since 2012 when the scoring system was adjusted. Akash Modi took individual titles in four events while taking home the all-around title as well with the team winning five of six events on the day.
The Cardinal (5-0, 3-0 MPSF) was dominant, scoring season-high team bests in floor and pommel horse. Akash Modi was phenomenal on floor to start, with a career-best 16.000 to lead Stanford and claim the individual title.
Pommel horse was no different for Modi, who took his second individual title on the night with a 15.400, another career best for Modi. Brian Knott followed Modi's lead with a season-high 15.100 to send the Cardinal to its second event win on the day.
Rings saw the Cardinal's streak snapped as Ohio State put up a team score of 73.800. Taylor Seaton added another strong performance in the event as he took second in the event with a 15.050 score, a career-best.
Headed into the fourth event the Cardinal led the way with a 222.850 running score as Seaton stepped up again for Stanford with a 15.200. Grant Breckenridge and Gabe Flores both came in next for the Cardinal with 14.700 scores as the Cardinal collected its third event title.
Akash Modi was unbeatable again in parallel bars with a season-best score of 15.250 or another individual title on the night. Ryan Sheppard also added in a huge season-best 15.000. Stanford bested its season high as well in the event with a 74.350 headed into the last event.
Modi wasn't done on the day though with an astounding score of 15.550 on high bar to clinch his fourth event. Robert Neff helped Stanford post a team season-best of 75.050 as the Cardinal remained a perfect 5-0 on the season with a 445.550, the highest team score for Stanford since March 8, 2014.
The Cardinal returns home next Saturday as it sets to host the Stanford Open at 7 p.m. in Burnham Pavilion.
