STANFORD, Calif. – Stanford's Akash Modi was named the College Gymnastics Association Gymnast of the Week for the first time this year, as announced by the organization this week. The honor is Modi's 11th of his career.
Modi claimed the all-around title and accumulated four individual event titles this past weekend at a tri-meet against No. 3 Ohio State and No. 5 Cal to lead Stanford to its fifth victory of the season.
Modi has earned nine individual event victories against NCAA teams this season: all-around (2), parallel bars (2), floor (2), pommel horse (1) and high bar (2).
Stanford and Modi will look to keep their momentum going Jan. 30 as they set to host the Stanford Open at 7 p.m. in Burnham Pavilion in Stanford, Calif.
