When junior April McKay learned she needed a field experience credit as part of her environmental science degree from the School of Public and Environmental Affairs, she jumped at the chance to conduct her own research. As a former volunteer with WildCare in Bloomington, she made the goal of her research to determine what happens to brown bats raised in captivity after they’re released into the wild.

A scholarship winner is able to follow his passion and collect eyeglasses to help impoverished kids in India see well enough to do their schoolwork. Elementary school students in Indiana get to learn the guitar with the help of IU experts. IU faculty member and former Indiana congressman Lee Hamilton received the Presidential Medal of Freedom at a White House ceremony November 24. He is one of 17 recipients of the 2015 medal, which is considered the highest civilian award given by the United States. Hamilton is a distinguished scholar in the IU School of Global and International Studies and a professor of practice in the School of Public and Environmental Affairs.
