You can call it a major breakthrough. Engineers have separated the Western side from the Eastern side of the Cantilever Truss of the Bay Bridge. For months they've been working toward this historic moment that was fraught with danger if it wasn't done correctly. They may have held their collective breath for a brief moment as the final seperation took place. But it went off exactly as planned.
