Card lax advances to MPSF finals

Behind four goals from sophomore midfielder Hannah Farr and three from junior attack Rachel Ozer, the Stanford women’s lacrosse team beat Cal 16-6 in the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation semifinals, and advanced to play No. 11 Denver in the finals.

Farr and junior attack Kyle Fraser staked the Cardinal to a 2-0 lead just over five minutes into the game. Cal’s Megan Takacs, the MPSF player of the year, halved the deficit two minutes later, but Stanford responded with the next five goals of the game to take a 7-1 lead. Takacs added her second in the final minute of the half, but Farr closed the period with a goal 11 seconds before the break to give the Cardinal a 8-2 lead at halftime.

The Golden Bears opened the second half with two quick goals but Stanford scored four of the next five goals to essentially put the game out of reach at 13-5. After Cal’s Amelia Burke scored to make it 13-6, the Cardinal tallied the final three goals of the game to close the victory.

Along with Farr and Ozer, freshman attack Julia Burns, Fraser,  junior midfielder Anna Kim and freshman midfielder Paige Southmayd all scored twice for Stanford while freshman midfielder Lucy Dikeou added one.  Junior Lyndsey Munoz made five saves in goal.

Stanford will now play top-seeded Denver for the MPSF title—and an automatic bid into the NCAA tournament—on Saturday at 1 p.m. The Pioneers beat the Cardinal 14-10 on April 5.
