WHO publication to facilitate clinical differentiation of arboviral diseases
1 March 2017 | Geneva -- The co-circulation of two arboviral diseases (dengue, chikungunya virus in late 2013 and Zika virus in 2014) poses a new challenge for public health in the Americas.
The three diseases can produce similar clinical symptoms, mainly during the acute phase (the first days of the disease), hindering clinical diagnosis and creating problems for appropriate case management, and sometimes triggering fatal events.

WHO Executive Board requests resolution on a comprehensive approach to global vector control
3 February 2017 | Geneva –– The 140th session of the WHO Executive Board has requested the World Health Assembly for a resolution on a comprehensive approach to global vector control.
It follows a review of a draft Global Vector Control Response (GVCR) 2017–2030 on 28 January.
The GVCR aims to provide strategic guidance to countries to preventing diseases and responding to outbreaks.
WHO publishes guidelines for patient care in the Americas
30 September 2016 | Geneva -- This new publication provides guidelines that encompass laboratory, social communication, epidemiology, integrated vector management, environmental, and patient care.
WHO considers patient care as a vital component and has made it a priority.
The first edition of Dengue: guidelines for the care of patients in the Region of the Americas was published in 2010, based on a WHO document published for the same purpose in 2009
WHO handbook for dengue outbreak contingency planning
30 September 2016 | Geneva -- A new handbook has been published to help countries plan for dengue outbreaks.
Produced by TDR with the World Health Organization, it provides the latest evidence on how best to establish early warning and response systems.
